For those of you who like good coffee... you don't go to Starbuck's anyway, so you probably will not feel much sympathy for the fact that one of Seattle's biggest success stories is now discovering just how stupid it is to give in to the howling demented mob of social justice warriors.
It turns out, of course, that the price of such stupidity is often severe:
Starbucks also plans to close about 150 company-operated stores in densely penetrated U.S. markets next fiscal year, three times the number it historically shuts down annually. Shares slid as much as 5.1 percent in early trading on Wednesday.
If you take a look at the chart that I pulled there, of SBUX's stock price, you can see that on April 18, 2018, the stock was trading at nearly $60/sh. Now, that's not bad, though still a bit off from the company's recent highs.
The reason why I picked April 18th to highlight is because, of course, that was a few days after two black guys who "dindu nuffin" - literally - walked into a Starbuck's store in Philly, sat down, did not order anything at all, and then insisted on using the bathroom, which is of course reserved for paying customers.
They were asked very politely by the store's manager to buy something if they wanted to use the restrooms - which is, of course, a perfectly reasonable request.
They were then asked, again very politely, to leave, since they were causing a bit of a scene. And, again, that is a very reasonable request for the proprietor of a store to make. Nothing wrong with that either.
So the store manager called the police, who then showed up and arrested the two men who absolutely "dindu nuffin" and said that they were just sitting and waiting for their friend to show up.
And the fit really hit the shan.
With the benefit of hindsight, a lot of things could have been done differently during that whole incident.
Was it strictly necessary for the police to arrest the two men, given that they were simply sitting down and not bothering anyone in particular? Probably not.
That said - would it have been better for the two men in question to simply buy the cheapest item on the menu while they were waiting? Absolutely. They were in a private space that provides a service to others. They should have paid fair rent for that space and its facilities.
I mean, let's face it - as bad as a single cup of Starbuck's coffee is, it ain't gonna kill you. And even if you buy it, you are under no obligation whatsoever to actually drink it.
And was it really necessary for the Left to turn this whole fiasco into a shitstorm on a national scale?
This was a very simple matter of private property rights being violated and infringed upon.
Proprietors of stores have every right to request that customers abide by their terms of service. Customers have every right to refuse to patronise stores with policies that they do not personally like. That is the beauty of freedom of association. It works in every walk of life.
Where the entire management of Starbuck's, from the CEO on down, made a huge mistake, was in apologising to the SJWs.
The store manager was well within her rights to call the police to evict a set of customers who were not abiding by the rules of her establishment. The police may have overreacted, given that the two men in question did not resist arrest and apparently did not make much of a nuisance of themselves - however, as Mark Dice points out in his analysis of the incident, the two gents sat there and argued with the police for seven full minutes before they were arrested:
I mean, I'm a pretty stubborn jackass sometimes, but I (hopefully!) know better than to just sit there and argue with the police for seven straight minutes about something that is, in the end, actually my fault.
Instead of doing the sensible thing and backing up the store manager for acting directly in line with company policy, Starbuck's CEO Kevin Johnson issued a groveling and really quite pathetic apology, shut down EVERY store in the entire country for a day on May 29th for a mandatory "racial sensitivity" training course, and ended up looking like a complete cuck.
It is disgusting to watch the CEO and management of one of America's biggest companies debase himself in such a manner.
And it appears that Starbuck's customers feel something similar, because the latest financial news from the Seattle coffee giant is not good.
Now, to be clear, the reasons why the company is closing down so many more stores than usual almost surely predate the April 12th PR nightmare. But the way in which the company handled it, by attempting to be as "woke" as possible, did absolutely nothing to help matters.
And that is why you can see, in the stock price chart above, that the price of SBUX is cratering.
The lesson of this debacle for Starbuck's, along with the outright disasters in the film and comics industries, is that giving in to the SJWs is a great way to destroy your business, your career, and your future.
SJWs do not understand reason, logic, and evidence the way that the rest of us do. They do not adhere to our moral standards and codes; ours are permanent and have profound and deep roots, while theirs are fickle and based on whatever makes them feel good at any given point in time.
That is why, when we do something truly wrong, apologise for it, and seek forgiveness, all is well and we can go back to being flawed and Fallen, but hopefully just a little less Fallen than before.
And that is why, when we do something that SJWs merely think is wrong, they descend upon us with the howling fury of a whirlwind to condemn us. When we try to apologise, they point to the apology as eternal proof of our guilt, and push ever harder for more abasement, more groveling, and more self-flagellation.
You see, because SJWs do not believe in redemption or forgiveness, but only believe in the nonsense of intersectionality, there is no apology that is sufficient for them. Every possible victim group must be apologised to - and they keep coming up with ever more of those.
Never, ever apologise to the SJWs. Stand your ground. Fight to the last. Do not sacrifice your dignity, your reputation, or your livelihood to them. They cannot stand up to confrontation or mockery, as we saw in yesterday's post. Do not ever give them the satisfaction of seeing you bleed - instead, take the fight straight to them, and jump into the fray with both feet.
Be light of heart and fight with a smile on your face - because He Himself is on your side.
