To hell with judging people by ability...

... Instead, we'll judge them based on how politically correct they are!
The Miami Dolphins announced Sunday defensive back Don Jones was fined and excused from team activities until he undergoes sensitivity training  [Didact: "If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever." - George Orwell] after his tweets about Michael Sam, the NFL's first openly gay player.
"We were disappointed to read Don's tweets during the NFL draft," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said in a statement. "They were inappropriate and unacceptable [Didact: and they were a personal opinion, which apparently is not permitted- but Frenching a guy on camera is A-OK right?], and we regret the negative impact these comments had on such an important weekend for the NFL.
"We met with Don (Sunday) about respect, discrimination and judgment. These comments are not consistent with the values and standards of our program. We will continue to emphasize and educate our players that these statements will not be tolerated."
Freedom of speech? We don't need no steenkin' freedom of speech in this country!!! Where do you think we are, America or something?!?

I don't much care about the NFL, since I don't regard gridiron as a proper sport. I have no patience for watching a bunch of nancies in Kevlar armour plating prancing around on what is otherwise supposed to be a proper rugby pitch, then stopping to huddle up for tea and crumpets every 2 minutes. (You want a man's game? Watch rugby instead.)

That said, was it really necessary to subject viewers of (mostly) family websites like the Daily Mail and ESPN to a picture of a man smooching with his boyfriend?

That isn't likely to inspire tolerance, it's more likely to inspire a gag reflex.

For the record, I could not care less who or what an NFL player has sex with, as long as he keeps it to himself and out of the spotlight, the way the rest of us do. By condoning homogamy like this, the NFL has made it perfectly clear that all manner of immoral behaviour is now not only permitted, but openly encouraged.

There was a time when sports existed to give men an outlet for their competitive urges, and to give young boys everywhere heroes to look up to. Now that the NFL has made it quite clear that it has no interest in providing either of these things, why support it?

  1. Bearded divas.
    NFL guys kissing their boyfriends.
Next, three women'll get married or something.

I think at this point it would be an understatement to say that the only way to properly rebel in this world is to be traditionally moral. Get yourself a James Dean hairdo, a leather jacket and then... genuine, polite, have self-control, tell the truth, put self-pity aside, be politically incorrect from time to time and at that point you're approaching Steve McQueen cool/rebel in this wacky world.

    1. Heh. Antidisestablishmentarianism as rebellion, eh?
